Due to the press of prep for Pantheacon, we're giving our hostess a break this month and will not hold our Ogam study group until February. Sorry for the short notice.

No Ogam class this month Dec. 17th, 2008 @ 06:36 pm

Due to the offical Bay Area class date being only 2 days after Christmas, no Ogam study group will be being held this month. Just too insane to try.

I just noticed that this Saturday is the fourth Saturday of the month. And that means it's time for another meeting of the SF Bay Ogham Study Group. Yes, we'll be having it this months (barring flood, earthquake, death or international incident). 2 p.m. in Hayward. If you need directions, contact either me or hilarypoet.

One topic of this month's meeting will be whether or not to hold the Decembewr meeting, due to its proximity to Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Ogam called on account of illness Oct. 25th, 2008 @ 03:45 am
blackfyr
Due to lysana and myself both being sick with different phases of an upper respiratry illness, there will be no Ogam study group meeting today. I'm sorry for the late notice, but I'm not thinking too clearly right now. We'll try again next month.

Ogam study delayed due to illness Aug. 22nd, 2008 @ 07:43 pm
blackfyr
Both lysana and I are feeling under the weather and don't want to expose anyone else to whatever we have. Thus, the August session of the Bay Area Ogam Study Group (yes, I finally came up with a name) is pushed back to Sept. 27 (the fourth Saturday) when we will work on Fe(a)rn and Sail(le)

Ogam group reminder Jul. 24th, 2008 @ 05:50 pm
blackfyr
Saturday (yes, two days from now) is the date of the next Ogam group meeting when we will (hopefully) finally start looking at the actual feda (starting with be(i)th & lu(i)s). Contact me if you still need direction. Please tell anyone you know that's intetrested and please let me know, as we'd like an idea of who's showing up.

After last month's lack of attendance, we will likely be closing the group down if no one shows up again this time, so please come if you want the group to go on.

No Ogham study session this month May. 19th, 2008 @ 03:59 pm
blackfyr
Due to not just one, but three conventions being held in the Bay Area on the normal weekend for our Ogham study group this month, we are not going to meet this months but will be back on our regular 4th Saturday schedule in June. Please mark your calendars now, as I won't even attempt to guarantee that I'll remind people in time next month.

» Ogam class this Saturday
I have been sick since Sunday and haven't had a chance to prepare for the Ogam study group this week, so I'll be showing up rather underprepared. That said, I'm still willilng to go through with this week's session if everyone else is. I'm on the mend and there's a very good chance that I will be well by then. Let me know if you're still interested.

The group meets at 2 p.m. at hilarypoet & Marshall's place. Drop me a note if you need directions.
» Ogam class delayed
I'm sorry to have to do this, but we were looking over the calendar and realized this was a bad time to start the Ogam class. Even if we felt we were prepared enough to run the class, we suddenly realizecd that we can't have class next month due to both Pantheacon and lysana's birthday. Thus we'd have a two month gap between the first and second gathering. Not good.

So, we are delaying the start of the class until March 22 at 2 p.m. And as soon as hilarypoet gets us the official directions to her place, I'll post them here.

Of course, this will also give you all time to get ahold of a copy of the main sourcebook we'll be using for the class (which has a good bibliography, so you can get more from that) and read at least some of it before we meet.
» Ogam class 3-week reminder
OK, this is your three week warning that lysana and I will start holding an Ogam study group (I don't feel I'm advanced enough to call it a class) using erynn999's Ogam book as out textbook. The class will be held at hilarypoet's apartment in Hayward (details on how to get there to come as soon as we get the official directions) and is open to the public, though we'd like to know how many are coming as it's not a large apartment.

The study group will meet every 4th Saturday of the month, which means we will be meeting on the 26th of this month to start the process. I would encourage everyone to Pick up erynn999's book in advance, as we will be referring to it repeatedly. Those wanting to dive deeper into the ogam would be well served by picking up a copy of Damian McManus' A Guide to Ogam and the Auraicept Na N'éces (I think I got the accent right), both available through the Books for Scholars website.

Edit:</b> I've been reminded I forgot to include the time we're intending to start. We're aiming for a 2 p.m. start and each session shouldn't run longer than 2 hours (granting that we're a chatty bunch).
» Upcoming Ogam class
To give everyone time to make plans, lysana and I will be leading an ogam class starting on 4th Saturdays starting in January. We're planning on holding the classes in Hayward at a friend's apartment, so space is limited. If you're interested, let us know and we'll hold a space for you. We will be using erynn999's new ogam book as our primary textbook, so if you want to be in the class it would be a good idea to pick up your copy ahead of time.

OK, the meetup with Alexei will be on Tuesday (8/7/07) around "7-ish) at Au Coquele in Berkeley. I look something like the icon on this post. lysana looks something like this: . Unfortunately we don't have a picture of Alexei. We'll aim for a table in the big room in back.

» A visit with Alexei
I just got a note from Alexei Kondratiev (for those who don't recognize the name, he's the author of The Apple Branch, one of the few modern Celtic books on what can be seen as CR - at least from certain angles) saying that he's going to be in the Bay Area for a conference starting on the 3rd. He's busy with said conference through the 5th, but won't be flying back home until the 10th. He'd like to arrange to get together with local CRs during his stay. He will be mostly confined to public transit, so we (the locals) would need to arrange to go to his area rather than having him come to us.

Anyone interested in working out days/times?
» Opening the Bay
After I don't know how many years running cr_r, the Imbas mailing list, etc., we finally had it driven through our heads that perhaps, just perhaps, it was time for there to be a regional community for CR in the SF Bay Area. So… Welcome!

We're obviously just starting out, but this is how networking starts. For those of you outside the area, it may seems somewhat restrictive to limit this to the San Francisco Bay Area, but you have to remember that the six (or is it 8) counties that touch on the S.F. Bay take up an area as large, or larger, than several of the easter states. Since it's not unkown for us to make trips for religion-related purposes that put over 150 on our car in one day and never be more than 20 miles in a straight line from the Bay, I think that's a big enough of an area for one community to cover.

So come on in, sit down and have a cup of whatever you want.

Let's chat.
